April Fool's Joke

Every year on this day I think of Sarah. Why you ask? Well, Miss Sarah played the ultimate April Fool's Joke on me a few years ago. I was so mad at her... I still get mad when I think about it! So, here's what happened:

We were in college. I was in my first or second year of nursing school at Weber State and Sarah was at Utah State. So, this must have been 7 years ago. On April 1st, Erin, Sarah's roommate called me with some terrible news. Erin: "Anya, I am just calling to tell you that Sarah was just in a really bad car accident in sardine canyon and she had to get life flighted to a hospital in Salt Lake!" Anya: Are you serious? Is she okay?" Erin: "I hope so. I am really worried and can't talk. If I hear anything I'll let you know." Click. So as you can imagine, I am FREAKING OUT! I was studying in school about traumas and head injuries and so my brain was whirling with possibilities of how BAD it really was. My first call was to my mom. I told her the whole story and said that I'd be heading down to Salt Lake ASAP! My second call was to Sarah's parents house where I left a message of well wishes, thoughts, prayers, and a request to call me back with where she was life flighted. Then, my mind started whirling again... I had clinicals the next morning for nursing school and a paper due... I had to find a way out of it so I could go see her! When Sarah's parent's didn't call me back within 10 minutes or so... I started calling hospitals to find her. I called the U of U first. No Sarah Henrie. Then I called LDS Hospital. No Sarah Henrie. I am thinking... she's not there yet, or worse she had died. I called my mom again... this time in tears... and THEN my phone beeped in for another call. It was Sarah calling. My first thought is it's her parents using her phone to give me an update right???! Finally! So, I jumped on to the other line... and I hear the LOUDEST voice in the world.... APRIL FOOLS!!!!! I was furious! I hung up the phone and started screaming at my roommate, telling her the whole story! Not only had Sarah been in on it... Erin was... and her parents! RUDE! I think Sarah must have called me 50 times that night. I never answered. I am pretty sure she called me the next morning and told me she was sorry to which I replied,  "I HATE YOU!" But then, we talked and I wasn't AS MAD anymore. So as a consequence to this single act, I don't answer phone calls from Sarah on April Fool's Day. So, Sarah if you read this today, Don't Call Me, I won't answer.

Alright... so even though I really did HATE Sarah on that April Fool's Day... I recovered from the trauma - forgave her - and she is one of my dearest friends still to this day. Here we are  in Europe May 2004. Even though I LOVE this picture... we really need an updated one, don't you think? Let's get on that Sar. Love ya.

HA! HA! HA! That was the best and worst April Fools trick I ever played on anyone! I never thought in a million years you would take it so seriously! It was so hard even getting ahold of you that day. If my memory serves me correctly Erin never actually got you on the phone, she only left a message so I wasn't sure when you would get the message so I kinda waited a long time to call and tell you "April Fools!" That was a mistake. But boy did I get your goat! Ha!

I am glad that you have forgiven me and we have been able to stay such wonderful friends! You know I only do those kinds of things to the ones I love the most!

ps. I am calling you just because you said you wouldn't answer... we'll see if you really don't!

That is one mean April Fools joke. Miles played one on his family this year telling them that I was in Labor. Most of them actually bought it.
